Thank you for getting me to laugh out loud this morning...

Even on a 100 point restoration, no Concourse judge could tell port work was done unless they removed an exhaust manifold during judging to have a look!

My thoughts exactly Pat......nobody cares about the date codes inside, heck most people don't know how to read the date codes on the outside or where they are located.

???

I was questioning the price quoted for 291C heads.

Eddys are in the 1800 range. I have seen them for 900 with no valves and springs.

That said when you add in shipping and re-building plus the added excitement of
anonymous porting, I would spend the money on the Eddys.

They may be good as gold and worth big bucks.

Just my 2C worth.

Don`t forget that early heads have less visible bolt hole`s...Not for nothing some guy`s are asking big numbers for restored 70 AMX`s Machine`s and Javelin`s....for those numbers i want the correct intake heads manifold and air cleaner

Yep, but I thought all 70 heads had the missing bolt holes.

I guess if it is early 70 heads being unique, I should not have done the extra head bolt additions for high compression.

Well I kept one untouched. Now I wonder would an early 71 401 head be rarer than early 70, as to figure out the pricing scheme one type with the later accessory mounting holes and the other limited to early production.

It never fails, AMC parts can be interesting between early production and later changes done in production, just in one model year or a years time.

You are so right. But if you have a 1968 ford Shelby car that you want $150000.00 for the buyer is going to want to pull the valve cover and check the date code and might stick a camera down the intake and spark plug hole. I know ford chev and mopar cars that sell for stupid money the buyers do their home work and if you want stupid money for your amc you better start paying attention to the details. If you don't ever want it to be worth what my real 427 425 hp mercury super marauder then don't pay attention and i would bet you won't get good money for it. Cameras can be bought for less than $100.00 at harbor freight. You may be right amc guys don't care and as long as they don't then we will get the results we have today. Amc cars are worth less than other brands. Just my opinion. Dog

Honestly I love AMC cars because none ever get "stupid money"
even with an iron clad provenance.

A stock 1969 Z28 might fetch half a million in perfect condition.

Show me a Rambler/AMC that sold for more than 1/10 of that.

BUT I like it that way. :-)

After what i see some of these parts going for you would have to be nuts to pay 40 grand for an AMX(Unless it`s custom) with the wrong air filter manifold heads carb  exc..   My wife say`s i`m a black and white guy no gray...  wrong heads = 2,000 dollar`s or more...price of “good” used heads machine work then the repair itself....i have 2 set`s of 291c`s  one set just went on my sons Concord build and the other set i will hold in case i buy a 70 something...

Amc`s are still realistic...When i bought my AMX 20 years ago it was more than a Camaro...Know the cross ram of a z/28 will fetch more than 90% of the AMX`s out there...

remember, not EVERY 401 has to be a "all mod cons" 700+hp monster. Some of us would just like a nice torque type engine to get us around, you know, like to the grocery store, maybe grandmas house...but real quick:), good luck, y'all, gz
