Putting together a 360 with a lunati cam with 547 lift. Using 291 heads. Machine shop says I will need guideplates. says he will have to ream out the guides for the pushrods for clearance because of the lift of the cam. Also wondering where to get a set of adjustable rocker studs? Should I go with a larger stud 7/16 vs std 3/8. Going with roller tip rockers 1.6 ratio. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

There is not enough clearance to allow slop in the push rod wiggle,  unless you are using narrow push rods or have modified the slots to be round on the heads,  you will need guides. I don't think 7/16 studs fit... All ,mine are 3/8.

All the threaded holes for screw in studs are 7/16 14.

Thanks for the fast response. Bulltear has a set of guideplates I think will work. Where can I find some adjustable rocker studs? Thanks

I ran a .660 lift cam with stock slots in head, no guides. Not needed for that lift, and also I would use 3/8 studs to allow more clearance for the slot in rocker, assuming you are using slotted rockers with roller tip not full roller rockers

I'm with tsanchez. I was running 291 heads and had a cam with 595 / 608 and used no guide plates. I recommend using roller rockers and 7/16 screw in studs. The 7/16 studs will keep the rocker where it belongs and will be a lot stronger.

Yup, 30 years ago in a 70' 390 no guide plates...
My heads were 3/8 screw in studs.

After seeing you and others with 3/8 studs... What's up with mine being 7/16?   I thought my heads were bone stock.

Provided the original pushrod guide slots in the 291C heads aren't worn irregular you don't need guide plates. The mounting holes for rocker studs are 7/16, but the rocker mounting end of the studs are originally 3/8". Unless you intend to run over 500# valve springs I would simply get a set of studs for 3/8 rockers and corresponding roller rockers. Those parts can be obtained from Summit or Jegs.
