Just wondering if I can make these work with the stock wheel openings and what backspace rime I will need? At this stage I'm thinking 15 x 8 rims, I know a little wider would probably be better with that size tyre. Will be running a stock width AMC20 out of a Hornet. At the moment the diff is in pieces and not in the car, which is part of the problem.

I think Spirits are pretty close in dimensions to the Gremlin. I have 275/50-15 Mickey SS drag radials 26.4 tall on 15 x 10 centerlines with 4.5 BS and they fit nice inside the quarters. i am running a Ford 9 from a Granada which is very slightly wider than a 20 maybe by 1/2 inch

You can fit a 28 x 13.5 Hoosier Quick Time Pro slicks in the stock Gremlin wheel openings
Using a 15 x 9" wheel with 4.5" backspacing |

Cool, looks like 15" x 8" with 4.5" backspacing will work, hopefully the 8" rim will pull the sidewall in a bit for a little extra clearance.

I've got some budget limitations for wheels, so currently looking at the Torque Thrust II wheels. It's one of the few options for 4" fronts and 8" rears, not too many backspace options for the rear though.
https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/are-vn2155866/overview/ I originally wanted to get some factory 8 slot steel wheels re-worked for the rear, but since you can't get a 14" front runner, the Torque Thrusts are looking like a good option. Edited by WesternRed - Mar/02/2017 at 4:09pm |
