yes, Look at the transmission section her. It comes up about once every month or so. It's a pretty common swap on AMCs. LRDaum

And let me add...I believe that this is the most common sense overdrive unit to go with.
A very nice transmission, and there are parts available to make this tranny bulletproof. g-man

Can't remember which one has the deeper granny gear for 1st. Some prefer it closer to 2.75 than 3.x with strip use intended.

Here's my situation. I have a spirit with a nasty 401. I want to find a 4 speed automatic that can handle 800 hp. I haven't seen any yet that have a high stall converter available. (3500, 4500).

I would try my luck with the A340 but I have yet to find a 700R4 that doesn't lunch itself after 500mi. I've never seen a 200R4 either. I find plenty of TH200s in old Impalas.

You definitely want to go with the 2004R. It is true that stock it is a weak transmission. You want to go to Art Carr's company: California Performance Transmissions His transmissions are works of art (no pun intended). He makes his own beefed-up main shaft. Don't waste your time with a 700R4. Go look at his site and you'll understand. g-man

There is more 700R4s around. The 2004R isn't as common. Most 2004Rs are in medium sized cars and full sized cars.the one engine that seems to always have them is the Oldsmobile 307. The 700 was used in just about every rear wheel drive platform.
