would that be any different than a pressed in stud spinning in the axle flange?

The longer splines sure does take the hassle out of buying -- doesn't matter if it's an early or late Javelin/small car, just trim to fit! I've used a cut-off wheel to trim the input shaft on a manual trans (just cut 1/8" off), no problem with cutting the axle with the same. If you're concerned about heat wrap the axle with a wet towel about 1/4" back from the cut line to absorb heat. Do that in welding all the time.

If you are afraid of the stud spinning just throw a small tack weld on them.

The lug nut would tighten against the threads in the hub and not against the stud hex. Probably strip the threads eventually.

That would work nicely.

They have lock washers and I've never had a problem even running 10 lug nuts

[QUOTE=Javelin69] Think you'd have to be be careful not to let them get too hot when cutting. [/QUOTEmoser case hardens their axles..softer in the middle so they will twist a bit. If anything the cut will harden the cut area. I've done it several times no issues.

The cut will only harden the area if quenched immediately after cutting. If doing so, quench with motor oil. Letting the cut cool normally in air will not harden the area.
Also, one can cut slowly with a chop saw and never get the cut area into the heat range where annealing might occur.

Water-cooled cut-off wheel. Had one at work where needed to cut parts and not affect the heat treatment.

Dr.Diff's listing says they come with the Green ball bearings ... fine for a drag car, but not the best for something taking corners. Also says recommended to remove the inner thrust block, but doesn't show a bearing outer race to seal spacer. Do the Green bearings work without spacers, i.e. do they fit tight next to the seal c'bore to take inward thrust loads if running without the thrust block?

IIRC, Moser and most others are now using the Timken Set9 tapered roller unit bearing and requires a cup spacer between bearing and seal to take the inward thrust load and remove or ensure clearance to the stock thrust block.

Photo looks like the pilot diameter for the wheel is Jeep-size, not car-size ... but maybe not correct photo?

Good to have an option that doesn't require sending in your old ones.

Thanks,RD

Wet saw wont touch that axle, abrasive cutting is only way. This is how moser should sell them.
