There is no valve adjustment on the Eagle engine. Or pretty much any OEM AMC engine with hydraulic lifters.
The rocker and it's parts bolt down with a torque rating and the adjustment is covered by the tolerance in the hydraulic lifters. |

The plastic valve cover if that is what it is, is best described as snug as to torque spec. Remember you are tightening down on plastic so too much will distort the material As to the valves? They are non-adjustable. |

Just torque the rockers down with the engine off. 19 ft/lbs for the bridged rockers.

My 81 Concord with the plastic leaky cover has adjustable rockers. It came that way fron the Branpton plant. Beware how you adjust these. Use a factory service manual for the procedure or it will be broken.

Ok, The Eagle is coming along slowly but we are almost done with the exception of paint. Currently we are having some transmission issues. It is shifting nicely, but when traveling up a hill and the transmission needs to down shift, it will not. We have to drop it down to second manually. Any thoughts.

Definitely a kick-down linkage adjustment. On the Chrysler transmissions the linkage also serves as a throttle valve linkage -- controls how much pressure the trans builds according to how much gas you're giving the engine (power). I'm assuming you do have it connected since you're getting good shifts, just needs some fine tuning. If by chance you don't have it connected STOP DRIVING IT!! Won't build enough pressure when driving, trans won't slip under light throttle but will under heavier loads and will eventually burn it up. If you don't have the linkage or have trouble adjusting get a Lokar cable to replace it. Works just as well and is easier to adjust.

There's already another thread on this topic - so perhaps all responses should be there as this isn't the transmission area and those who can help with transmissions most will be cruising that area more than an engine area..............
