Those look really good. That’s just about perfect, I’d say.

So I made an error ordering tires. I intended to run 225/70R14 rears and 215/70R14 fronts. I ordered 215/60R14 fronts though. That’s gonna be a huge stagger front to rear that I didn’t intend. I’m not so sure how I feel about it and whether or not I want to return the front tires and reorder. I had them shipped...

Fronts ordered
215/60R14 = 24.16”

Rears ordered
225/70R14 = 26.4”

On car now / intended fronts
215/70R14 = 25.85”

Was looking at a .55” stagger. Now would have a 2.24” stagger.

I’d really love to see a 235/65R14 size!

295/50R15 is only .21” bigger in diameter than the 225/70R14 I’m doing in the rear of the Hornet. They’re definitely wider though. About 3” wider!!! I wish there were more 14” sizes (said every muscle car guy). I REALLY dig these wheels which is why I’m sticking with 14”

I did order 2 more fronts in the 215/70R14 size I intended to order originally.

It was a sad day as my 1969 AMC Javelin SST rode away on a trailer. My youngest son, Henry, worked with me today stripping a few parts from the Javelin before it got picked up, destined to be a donor.
Here he is with his tool kit removing a temp and oil pressure gauge:

I started going over the wiring schematic for the Hornet today and brainstorming my re-wiring job. I learned a few lessons doing the Javelin, so hopefully this one goes smoothly. I can already tell I’m gonna need a lot more packard terminals for all of the plugs in the harness like wiper switch, headlight switch, column and ignition plugs, rear harness plug, A/C thermostat and heater plugs, firewall connector, etc. I bought a bag 15, initially. Not gonna cut it.

Well, I had a little time today, so I decided to go ahead and put the 360 in the car. I’d rather do the wiring first, but I needed to get the engine off the floor in the garage as the military housing management will be coming by to do preventative maintenance throughout the house next week, and they don’t always take kindly to such automotive “maintenance” in the neighborhood.

I gotta tell you, she fought me every step of the way.

This dang car has a big beefy exhaust system with a dropout H pipe AND an X pipe and it goes all the way over the rear axle. Basically, you can’t remove it without cutting it out. That was a pain. Also, sure enough, the shorty headers were absolutely not happening. Not without massive reshaping and definitely not from the top. I have some manifolds with smog ports plugged, but I really didn’t want to run them. I’ll have to see if I can get them in from the bottom sometime later.

I put it in with the engine mounts off and dropped them in as I lowered it down after bolting up the transmission. Lining up the mounts with the holes in the block was a royal pain. I realized later that the top of the 727 column shift rod was hitting my obnoxiously large aluminum valve cover keeping me from settling the engine back the last 1/2” or so. There was plenty of adjustment thread coming out of the top, so I trimmed it from below with a dremel and my arm way up in there by feel. Now I have park and the engine fits.

I couldn’t find a spare torque flight yoke, so I had to leave the entire driveshaft hanging out of the end of the transmission while moving it all around getting everything installed. Fun.

It looks like I’m out of luck if I need to remove my heater blower motor and fan. Or the passenger side valve cover for that matter.

Good news, my obnoxious finned aluminum oval air cleaner fits under the hood on top of the AirGap manifold and QFT carb.

More good news, no more Eaton PS pump for me. And the Saginaw I have lines up with the short shaft water pump pulley perfectly. I even had the right belt.

I’m sure there’s a lot more, but I’m tired.

Anyone know anything about this torque converter?

I was told it’s from a 258. I drove the car for a week with another 360 in it before buying it and it felt like it had a little more stall than what I’d expect from a factory unit.

Progress. That has got to feel good. I had to make a decision on valve covers. The trials and tribulations of having a small body car.

When I did the V-8 into my Spirit last century, I used one of those tilting mechanisms because the motor had to go in at such a deep angle. It still was a challenge.
