I think your gauge is off. The Carter Super Street pump puts out 6.5 psi which is great for a decent street engine. I would borrow another gauge from someone and double check. You don't need a regulator with that pump. You are basically causing a bottleneck between the pump and the carb.  Most people check furl pressure at idle but not under acceleration . That will tell you if the fuel pressure is correct.

I’ll definitely look into that. However, without a regulator there was no doubt I was getting way too much fuel. The bowls filled past the sight glass in both bowls almost immediately. And with the Holley regulator, when pressure appeared by the gauge the creep up, the fuel bowl levels would correspondingly rise. Now with the bypass regulator, I get a little mechanical pump pulse at idle, but it seems consistent.

Haven’t tried another gauge, but everything seems ok so far. I did run the tank really low and sucked up some crud that blocked the needle and seat and caused the primary bowl to flood. Or the float got stuck. Or both. Either way, I got it running, revved it up with my hand over the air horn and tapped it with a rock on the side of the road then held it open at 3,000 rpm for a few seconds and now it’s running right again. These glass sight windows on this QFT carb are nice. I’m running a cheap parts store clear glass filter as I do on first fire ups with unknown fuel tanks and I can definitely see particles. I’m already gonna need a replacement element after less than 200 miles. If a couple of filter changes and cleaning out the carb doesn’t have it clearing up, I’ll drop the tank and clean it. Need a new sending unit anyway.

Car ran pretty good on the way to work today. I want to get the rear end serviced, front and rear bearings greased, suspension rebuilt, and steering rebuilt before running it too hard, but I will say it MIGHT have “accidentally” gone over 100 mph on the freeway today.

Darn, don't you just hate it when that happens? I know I sure do. LOL

Haha. Yeah...

Considering the fact that it’s the same engine, a 3-speed auto, and same 2.87 rear gears as my Javelin, I can tell you it’ll do 135 as long as the aerodynamics will allow it. Actually, I’ve got .3” larger tires. Make that 136. I won’t be testing that probably ever but definitely not until I rebuild the suspension, steering, and brakes. And I’m not 100% confident in the stock 5/16” hard fuel line and mechanical pump.

So I think I’m eventually gonna do power windows and locks with A/C and cruise control in the Hornet. She’s gonna be plush. If I can ever afford it, even leather seats.

Anyone have tips on replacing all of the suspension bushings and steering parts and getting it back together close enough until I can get to the alignment shop in a week or two? Other than measure everything I possibly can.
