Got some more work done underneath, including the first pass at undercoating. Still some touch up to do of course. I pulled the axles and repainted the backing plates/R&R'd the rear brakes, so one more thing checked off the list. Doors are together and ready to go (along with the fenders & hood) once I get the jog built to roll it around.

Passenger Door assembled (need to add the spacer for the armrest in to center things up).

What are the materials you are using and the technique to paint the polyropylene interior parts such as the seat corners?

I am using SEM's color coat process on all my interior pieces. SEM has tech sheets on their website explaining the process, but it is pretty easy. They have a special soap that you wash the parts with, then a wipe on cleaner followed by a special adhesion promoter, and finally the paint. The paint is basically lacquer in a can, but it covers very nicely and is a pretty durable finish. I've painted the metal areas in my interior with it as well, and it it looks great.

I suspect you are looking for blue, so that might take a little more work. I have a friend who is using SEM for his 70 Javelin interior, and SEM has discontinued some of their colors, including most of the blue shades. I'd suggest you find the color that matches and buy it up!

You can get vinyl/interior paint custom mixed in DuPont and PPG, and you used to be able to buy custom-mixed SEM colors. Go to a paint supply store.

Not a lot of progress, but I did take some more photos. I've got the dash harness, pedals, and rebuilt heater box back in. DMT used my old gaskets to remake the gaskets for the non AC box, and did the gasket for the defrost vent. I've also installed the front brake lines using part of the kit available for non-power brakes and making the rest to match. The blower motor was rebuilt by Billd and is clear zinc as the original was. All of the 71 cars I've examined had clear zinc motors if non-ac and painted motors on AC cars.

Ian,

I am loving the work. Wonderful job. I can't wait to see it in Auburn as I would suspect you are not going to be done in time for the Reddig Regional. Either way your project is looking fantastic.

Just an observation. All may six and V8 amc's, have the starter relay on the passenger side, same side as starter.

Thanks Ken! I'll have the spirit at the Redding meet, but this one will be pushing it to get done for next summer.

73hornut: Up through '71 the starter and solenoid were on the driver's side for 6 cylinder cars. When they switched to TF transmissions they moved the starter so it was all the same.

I understand about that. After 21 months of work we just squeaked by with getting the Javelin done for Sue in time for Andover. With the results from Andover she now has to decide if she wants to put it back on the road or keep it on the show circuit for a while. I am not sure yet what we are going to do about the Redding show. If we make it we may just drive my Hornet. Otherwise we will have to catch up with you at Auburn.
