I asked my local autobody supplier to mix up some 1971 javelin C6 which is Surf Side Turquoise. He said he can't since his paint chips don't go back that far.

Anyone know where I can get some old paint store chips so he can match?

What brand of paint does your store sell? The color chips and paint codes for the common brands like PPG and DuPont can be found at www.autocolorlibrary.com.

It's hard to help you without at least knowing what brand of paint you're looking for, Dupont, Ditzler, etc, or paint type, BC/CC, single stage, urethane, acrylic enamel, and so on.

I think he gave you a simplified explanation .

What he really needs is the paint formulas, and his don't go back that far evidently, but any paint supplier I've dealt with has resources they can go to find obsolete paint mixes.

You just have to find one that's willing to take the extra time.

I buy Martin-Seynour paint at NAPA, they keep their chip books dating back to the '50s. Once they have the code, the formula is in their computer. Just had some 1968 Tahiti Turquoise mixed the other day.
