Hey guys, I have a 1970 AMX that was originally 390 Shift Command Auto and has had conversion to 4-speed (T-10) done by prev owner. Question: does the 4-speed use any kind of neutral safety switch like the auto had? Wiring diagram only shows schematic for the Shift Command NSS and combined backup switch. I ordered the 4-speed backup switch and retainer but what about the NSS? Do you just wire together? Right now it is just wired together and runs fine but wondering what the factory did w manual trans. Thanks for the advice.

68-74 AMC's with 4 speed do NOT use any type of Neutral Safety Switch (NSS).  The NSS connector under the dash that it there for automatics IS jumpered with a male double blade terminal that has a piece of black heat shrink on the exposed loop, so it doesn't short to the body,  The bottom line is it just needs jumpered, however if you want to install a theft switch that kills the car, this is the perfect point to put it and not tamper with the factory wiring!!

Found no neutral switch to be an occasional novelty in college. When parked downhill, click ignition, press clutch, roll forward, release clutch, fire up and drive away.  Good conversation starter (pun intended) with those that looked at cars as appliances.
