Does any one know where I can get a diagram and parts list for replacing the shoes and all hardware on my rear 10" drum brakes ?  I would like a diagram of both right and left drum brakes. I have a service manual and it only shows the left rear brakes. Who ever had the car before my dad had removed a bunch of the hardware, I found this out when I tried to adjust the  brakes . The right side is missing more than the left side.  Any help would be great.Confused

I have a 71 manual with right rear drum. If It applies to your 10 Inch setup, It may help.

I also have spare parts, like the strut, cable guide, guide plate, cable and adjuster.

Springs, cable, and other small parts can be had as kits.

RockAuto would be the low-price place to gather those items. I would recommend replacing everything, including wheel cylinders.
You need:
1 hardware kit
Left self-adjuster kit
Right self-adjuster kit
Two wheel cylinders
Shoes

74 Hornet Hatchback X twins (since 1977)
62 American Convertible (still worth the $50 I spent in 1973!) AMCRC #513, AMO #384
70 AMX 360 4-speed (since 1981)

If given a choice on the rear wheel cylinder sizes I think the smaller might be better.

I chose the larger and going down a steep lane with gravel the backs always slide first.

You could probably plumb in an adjustable proportioning valve to get rid of this issue if you didn't want to replace the wheel cylinders again.

But thanks for the tip, I'm about to completely go thru the brakes on my American and would not have thought to consider this.

I should add I don't have an AMX. My choices were 15/16 or 7/8. I think by Rockauto yours might be 7/8 or 13/16.

Thanks for the tip on the proportioning valve.
