The Hemi is technically not too big, but probably too big for us. It is possible in the sense that anything is possible if you want to work and spend enough, but it might not be practical. Hemilina (my favorite Javelin of all time) is a 73 and there is a bit of a difference in the front ends. Keith was kind enough to reach out to me and we discussed it a bit. My father and I talked about it again today, and we haven't ruled out the Hemi, but are heavily leaning to other options. For the record, we are not unexperienced in these sorts of projects. I race an 85 Astro minivan that has a SBC with headers, edelbrock heads, and tall valve covers. It took quite a bit of work to make happen and then work out all the kinks over the years. Changing the plugs is a nightmare. Keith, didn't you have a magnum engine in your Javelin before the Hemi. I am wondering if that might be better for a Gen I Javelin. Should be smaller in many ways, and easy to find with a 2wd transmission. We didn't want to stray too far from AMC with a ford or chevy engine.

Yes that thread is here http://theamcforum.com/forum/magnum-in-a-javelin_topic71324.html. That's a really easy swap since both are small block engines and pretty close to the same size. Yes, you'll have several choices for a transmission in either 3 or 4 speed.
