My '68 AMX brake light switch, which may be original, has finally failed. I ran a jumper wire bypassing the switch and the brake lights work!

I have an NOS AMC conversion kit to the updated cylindrical brake switch. The factory diagram shows cutting the factory plug in into two separate pieces. I'm gun-shy about cutting my new harness. Has anyone done this and lived? LOL

Thanks in advance,
Maynard

Here's the original brake switch

Here's the NOS conversion kit:

Here are the instructions showing to cut the wiring harness connect into 2 pieces

I believe that's a common switch used on Chevy C and K series truck and Blazer. Also some Fords. Get the pigtail for the switch and put  1/4" Spade connectors on the  bare ends. Just plug into the original

I installed the conversion bracket and newer style brake light switch. Instead of cutting the wiring harness, which is some very tough plastic, I used 2 spade connectors to make a bridge between the wiring harness and brake light switch. It works perfectly with no cutting. Problem solved! If this brake light switch ever fails, I can use a modern switch readily available.

Good solution instead of hacking up the harness. It's possible to take apart the original switches and clean them
