??  Any auto trans in your part of the world?

I have a auto trans from a 69 Rambler that I would sell cheaply ($50) and would bolt up to an early 232 (it works but I would rebuild it if I were you before installing).  Don't know what it would cost to ship to you.  It weighs around 100 pounds.  I recently shipped a part to Sweden recently but it was small.

You can use any pre 72 six cylinder transmission. The pre 72 V-8 trans won't fit. Even a trans that was behind a 196 will work, just some slight mods needed.

T/C for the early 232 IIRC is 13" across the ring gear, only 12 1/2" for the 196. Get the matching 232 bell housing and T/C and transmission if you can. 66 and I think 65 T/C's will fit the earlier transmission with cable input but a 67 T/C with the vacuum modulator has a different spline count. I don't know about newer than 67.

What year car is it going into?  In a 64 I had to use the original 196 starter in which the solenoid sits upright. The solenoid on the 232 starter is canted away about 30 degrees and gave me gas pedal linkage clearance issues.

Maybe someone else can confirm but to me it looks like a 232 bell housing which would make it a 65 or 66. Got a T/C with it 13" across? Got a kick down cable? I am pretty sure that tail housing and shaft is shorter than the open type. They could be changed by taking the transmission completely apart. I have heard that an open drive shaft can work but it would have to be the correct length.

Honestly that old 3-speed manual is probably more reliable and easier to repair/find parts for than the optional BW M35 automatic. The Borg-Warner automatics are getting a little hard to support and I don't have a very high opinion of them.

A clutch pedal and linkage and floor shifter would do the job but some cutting of the floor tunnel involved. Otherwise get a complete column. If I had a T86 way back when instead of the T96 I probably would not have changed to automatic but am still happy because much prefer it to manual. The T96 and clutch were breaking down too often.

I think finding the right auto is the easiest way to go. The used one I put in 35+ years ago is still working good. Fatsco or Northwest transmission for parts.
