I picked up a stock 4brl intake for my 66 ambassador recently. also picked up a draw thru turbo set-up, but since it looks like it wouln't fit in the engine bay without cutting the hood, i'm going to scrap that project for now and just swap the intake and get a new carb. the old 2brl is giving me problems right now anyways - got a slight crack/leak at the fuel line/bowl, runs fine at high way speeds but stalls at stop signs/idle, stays running with slight choke....... anyway....

Thinking about getting a holley or an edelbrock, 500 to 600 cfm, no double pumper, electric choke.....
any recomendations? anyone running similar setups on their 327? any problems hooking them up lnkage wise?

thanks,
   chris

I'd just go with a holley 2300, and sell the intake.

The 500cfm 2300 gave me fits.  I had a nasty flat spot I was able to improve but not eliminate.  Switching to a 4V 500cfm the 290 is a completely different motor. Ultimately I thought the 2300 and the 2V intake just didn't play nice together.  Maybe if the 327 2V intake is different it would work, but maybe what makes it suitable as a circle track carb might make it a PITA for a driver?

Is the 4 bbl intake a square pattern?  (I suspect it is)  Any of the smaller 4 bbls will work then.............and if you set it up correctly, ought to run better and a bit better MPG...

I got a 2300 500 cfm on a stock 304 and runs great. Yes I had to "play with it" but you would have to do that for most if not all carbs not ment for the motor/car it is on. Few carbs are "run out of the box".
BTW son has a 2300/500 on a 258 Jeep and he loves it.

As for swaping intake or not I hear people who have (to a torker) said made an improvment on powere felt on the butt dyno.

I run the Holley 500cfm 2bbl on my 290 Javelin and it works well, after a little adjusting. I used an antique Holley float bowl so I could use the stock metal fuel line without any modifications and kept it looking stock. But, I used the Edelbrock 500cfm 4bbl (and manifold) on my 304 Spirit and the mileage was better since I wasn't pulling the whole 500cfms at once.

I run the 600 Edelbrock Performer with electric chocke on my 327, Runs good without any problems right out of the box. I am no longer using a exhaust manifold heat riser as it is not needed when you use the electric choke. But after I installed my homemade torker intake I had to rejet the carb.

If your engine is completely stock, a 2V carb would be fine, espeically since it is a low compression engine.  There is not much performance gain with the 4-bbl STOCK intake.  It would seem that 500-600 cfm is plenty big enough.  Now if you make a torker or performer intake for it, now we are talking some serious improvements and 650 is more in line, depending how you drive your car.

One thing to know about 2 bbls is they are flowed at 3" hg and a 4 bbl is 1.5" hg. So a 500 2 bbl is actually the same as a 354 4 bbl. Still pretty small for a V-8!!

Of course all the carb companies lie about the flow rate, so you really don't know anyhow.

Chose your carb size based on what you are planning for the car. If performance is your primary goal go a little bigger, maybe a 750, imo 600 is too small. If your planning to cruise around and not really run it hard a 600 would be good. Remember a 327 is still a reasonable size engine.
