While I'm waiting for a new fuel pump to come in, I figured I'd snap some shots of the car with the new tires on it.  Also got the taillights working nice and bright.

Looking good. What did you do to get the lights brighter?

New bulbs, new wires, and I sanded the paint down to the bare metal where the tail light housings mount to the car.  With those contact points nice and clean, the lights work great.

Alright, got a new fuel pump in from Blasers and it seems to be working.  I've got fuel in the fuel bowl filter and I can see it being pumped into the carb when I crank the engine.  Unfortunately, I can't the engine to fire though.  I'm getting spark, but it just won't fire.  So I want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

I have the 196 OHV.  The book says my firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4.  The image shows this order in a clockwise direction, and has an arrow also pointing in the clockwise direction.

My rotor spins counter clockwise!?!?  Is that wrong?  Is that possible?

I'm not that familure with your engine, but I know it is possible on some engines to have the distributor in 180 out.  (don't ask me how I know that)

line up your timing mark and check to see if the rotor is pointing to the #1 plug wire.

Just a thought. Smile

Maybe you dont have what you think you have???? The picture above rotates the right way right?
As said get motor to TDC by pulling #1 plug and turning motor over till the piston is at top and the timing mark lines up. Then follow the right rotation picture for wiring the dist. and you should be good.
BTW what was done to the motor that it does not run and you are cheking the firing order?

The motor was completely rebuilt.  It's just been taking some time getting it in shape to start.  It's an OHV, but the rotor rotates to the left, counter clockwise.  So I don't know if I should be following the books diagram since it shows an arrow rotating clock wise.  The above picture shows it rotating counter clockwise, but that's for the flat head.  Could it be a typo?

The rotor on an OHV 195.6 rotates counterclockwise.   I vaguely remember noticing a mistake in the TSM too.  Joe

Looks great with the Cragars and T/A Radials.  What size did you go with?

Joe, so I'm assuming the firing order should still be the 1-5-3-6-2-4 just going CCW? Thank you so much for responding, you have no idea how hair I've been pulling out over this.

The wheels are 16" and I can't remember the rubber size. I'll get the sizes the next time I head back to the shop. I had new springs made that are 2 inches shorter than the stock ones.
