Trying to keep it simple and still look stock.  I put speakers in the doors and ran the wires to the trunk to hook up directly to an amplifier. I then ran an RCA wire from the dash to the input on the amp.  On the dash end of the RCA, I connected a 2 channel Audio/Video selector box.  On input 1, I put a headphone jack/RCA cable so I can plug in my ipod.  On input 2, I plugged in my XM radio.  I can control the volume on each device with their controls.  One click of the button on the selector box, and I can switch back and forth.  The amp is connected directly to the battery, with a remote wire connected to a switch under the dash so I can manually turn it on and off instead of messing with the ignition.  I put a new speaker in the AM Motorola radio, and can use that whenever I might need it.  I can take more pics this weekend and put them up.  I haven't mounted the amp yet, but am trying to figure out where I want it.  I might cut out a piece of wood to use as the backseat backing, that way I can mount the amp to the back of the seat, instead of the flimsy cardboard one that came with the car.

Those ports near the bottom of the pump are to and from the vacuum pump.  The port marked "in" is supposed to be connected via a hose to the vacuum wiper motor (on the side of the motor).  The port marked "out" should be connected via a hose to the intake manifold.  The vacuum pump part of the fuel pump boost vacuum to the wiper motor.  Joe

Thanks for the info!  Is this where it goes?

When I originally got the engine, there was this fuel line-like pipe that was connected below the carb on the side of the intake manifold.  Someone had stuck a pen in it, and once again, I don't have a diagram or extra hose that might guide me as to the purpose of this outlet.  Would that also be where the vacuum line might go?  Or is the first picture still right?

That port would work  but make sure you have a port reserved for the vacuum advance on the carb too.  Joe

So I have 3 ports on the carb.  1 is the fuel inlet port, another is an exhaust? port that goes to the exhaust manifold, and the 3rd port--is this the vacuum advance port that connects to the dash pot on the distributor?

Did some more work this weekend.  I used Farna's advice and used the car's weight to release GaryJav's tool and used it to compress the new spring too.  I don't remember what I paid for the tool, I think $50 plus shipping, but the peace of mind and the ease of use is worth $200. All teeth, arms and legs are accounted for!

thanks so much for the pics! it's been a tough summer so work on my '65 wagon has been slow, but during this time i've decided to go the modification road rather than restore and seeing your process has been very helpful.

as for my thoughts on the stereo work, i'm planning on placing a new head unit in the glove box and running an IR receiver just behind the stock radio window to keep it appearing vintage. since i've got a wagon i have a few more options in the rear though... been toying with lining the bed with wood slats, making custom enclosures to fit around the wheel wells containing two full range speakers, a sub, and an amp.

...i also had this crazy idea of finding a shop that could turn the roof into 2 removable panels, sort of T-top style i guess. haven't figured out if it's possible structurally yet or not. i just want a convertible haha

good luck! looks great :)
