I'm having trouble getting the correct coil. It's an F-head 4. It burns the points with a stock 12 volt coil. I bought one with an internal resistor and it lasted one year and burns the points. I can't find a resistor in line anywhere. Which coil am I supposed to use? Thanks

You might look into putting a ballast resistor in line on the power side of the coil (if your Jeep doesn't have a resistance wire). That will lower the input voltage to the coil to about 9 volts when hot. Are you sure you have the correct condenser for the points, and are you replacing them as a pair?

Yes,I replaced them both. It bothers me that I had no problems for a year after replacing the coil with a resister coil. I'm really trying not to hack up the wiring, this is the first Jeep I've ever had that all the gauges and lights worked. I'm leaning towards trying a Bosch blue coil with 3 ohms resistance on the primary. I thought maybe someone had run into this problem before me. Thanks for the response!
