You'll see them on E-Bay ever now and then.
I had one on my 64 American, it was made by Offenhauser.

Of course it depends on if it's a L head or an OHV. :D

There are 2 carb heads for the L-head too. Had one also, back in the dark ages. When you said 59 Rambler, I thought you meant 59 Rambler as in big Rambler, it only came with a OHV 6 or V8. If it is a Rambler American, it only came with the flathead in 59. The flathead, or L head has the sparkplugs on the top of the head, sticking straight up. The OHV has the sparkplugs sticking out the side of the head at about a 45 deg. angle.

My Joke was that the flathead doesn't even have an intake manifold at all, the carb bolts to directly to the head.

Offenhauser made one. I finally sold the home made one I had. It's easy to make one, it's just a flat plate bolted to the head. I used a piece of 1/2" thick aluminum, about 3" wide and about 27-28" long (forget exact sizes). Just use an intake gasket for bolt hole position and overall size and shape.
Get the carbs you intend to use and MAKE SURE they both have the same size jets or you'll burn a hole in a piston. The 196 OHV intake ports are made so that the first opening feeds #1, the seconds #2 and #3. So you want the hole for the carb positioned so that 1/3 of the hole is to the front (rear for the back cylinders) of the #2/3 port, 2/3 right in front of the #2/3 port. I used a pair of Carter YF carbs only because I had them available (from 196 L-heads). A pair of Holley 1909s would work well, maybe even better. That's what the Offenhauser intake was made for. Offy may still have it available, though might take 6 months to get it. For studs I used countersunk machine screws up from the bottom. The holes were threaded and sealer was used on the screw heads. You will have to make some linkage too. I came up with a simple solution for that -- not real elegant looking, but works well. If you decide to go that route I'll elaborate. |

Ray - that's sick. These pics are now my model for what I want to do. We're did you get the intake manifold? Who makes it? Is the throttle linkage hand made? How much did you pay for the manifold??
[Edit]: oops I just saw the '0' logo. Edited by 59 gasser - Jul/28/2011 at 4:25pm |
