I wonder what other motors will fit your trans?
In any case, a 4 cyl 2wd TJ or Comanche may have the drivetrain you need (if the Rambler is open driveshaft. If not, the MJ axle may work with FWD offset rims if slightly too wide but then you need to add the rear springs as well. |

Only the American got a flat-head, so it's open drive and leaf springs. XJ/MJ axle is way too wide though, by about 4-5".
When flat-head blocks crack from heat it's usually around the valve seats. Could have froze at some point though. |
