i second the powemaster alternators, they are 140AMPs and bolt right in the stock bracket and the come with an individual test card for each alternator showing what amps it puts out at certain rpm. I installed mine in 2004 and it still works flawlessly.

I had to make brackets for the cs130 in my 69 Rambler. But, my alter mounts adjacent to the crank, in the driver's side. Yours mounts next to the cylinder head, on the passenger side? Should be pretty easy to swap.

let us step over into the Electricalism Departamento! I think the folk populating that vicinity can tell you all about it.

We honestly disconnected the red charging light in the dash when we went to one-wire. Didn't need it with Autometer volt gauge.

With a one-wire alternator you lose the idiot light. Most people install a volt meter. Use the light for something else or leave disconnected. A "three wire" alternator (standard... two small wires and one large wire to battery) can be used as a "one-wire". You just jump one of the small wires to the battery cable terminal. The second small wire is for the light. Or you can leave it disconnected if you don't want/need the light. I forget which of the small wires is which, easy to find though.

The "three wire" alt is easily connected to the existing AMC alternator wiring harness, without chopping, and having all of the system work right. I've got a 55 amp Delco 10si in my '68 American, made up some little wires with connectors to mate to the factory push-on connections, works like it did in '68.
This thread should be in the Electrical board... |
