I just received a sound deadening kit via American Parts Depot, ordered for my 1972 Javelin sst.
Has anyone ever tried to use this kit?
Some shapes are only reminiscent of my car but most are not a match when laid in, the laser cut outs are not a match for anything.

The REM label in the box says it is for 64/74 AMX/Javelin but unless Im a bit bonkers today it doesnt appear to properly fit the car anywhere.

Any body else know something about this?

Its essentially non refundable ($122 usa) as I'm in NZ and postage alone was nearly $300 USA, so there's no adding another 300 to return it and then expect the seller to spend another 300 to send the right kit down here. Im thinking all I can do is cut it to pieces and try to make something of it.

Am I correct in thinking that AMX and Javelin are different floor pans, and that 68 and 72 are different bodies? in that this would never fit my car properly.

Interested in comments
thanks Roger

People have been complaining about the fit for years.

The standard response from the vendors has been that "Bad parts are better than no parts at all!".

I put this kit in my '69. Seemed like a waste. I never did figure out where some of the pieces went. Yes, '68-70 AMX is a foot shorter than the 71 up AMX, which is a rebadged Javelin.

I know nothing about that product.Years ago I ordered a pre cut trunk mat and it was the same story.Today I buy local or fab my own products. If you have one of the popular cars that have catalogs of parts you are ok.

Agreed 100%. Out here my car is valued at $60k plus, one of only three in my half of the country. I wanted a professional pattern cut kit that was in balance for a well valued vehicle. If I wanted a back yard look to this job I could have bought blank sheets and done it myself, something that now becomes the next option anyway.

You don't see it once the dash and carpet are in anyway. I restored a '69 BBO AMX and was worried about every detail being original, but I realized later that I was being a little silly about some of the "hidden" details. For example, I put mylar water shields under the door panels and later removed and replaced them once I found paper ones (like the originals). I sold the car after it won the Teague Heritage award, but I doubt the new owner really cared what was under the door panels. I was telling myself that at least I knew it was done right, but then again I'd put Dynamat under the carpeting, so did it really matter at all? You can make yourself a little crazy with this stuff.

BTW, I'm originally from NZ, born in Warkworth, Northland. Been in the States 58 years now. My sister and her family moved back there six years ago.

REM made restro parts are the worst, atleast for  a 70 AMX. The REM trunk mat is wrong and the inside fire wall paddling is wrong. As you found out the sound deadening kit is also horrible. Most will tell you AMark stuff is the best quality out there.
I just got ACC to listen and adjust their 70 AMX carpet to be closer to correct. ACC is the first to try to do better. They even paid to get my original carpet and to send it back.
Wrote REM and no response.

Sorry about your experiences, but thanks for posting about them allowing others to avoid them.

So, I'm now making the sound deadening kit fit the car, by using a trim knife etc, and have also discovered that once the thin plastic protector on the adhesion side is removed, there is no adhesion to the car of any kind, so now its also in with the Ados contact cement to make at least something out of it all. Hmm, less than impressed.
