It is with great sadness that I recently found out about the passing of Ron.
Ron started AM Drag Car in April of 1978 which later evolved into NAMDRA.

Ronald G. Williams, of Palatine, IL, died June 16, 2011. He was predeceased by his wife, Karen, in 2001. Beloved uncle of David; son-in-law of Harriet; brother-in-law of Barbara; and friend to Leon. Interment was private.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Ron's passing.  Many years ago, I was the one who got Ron into the AMC hobby.  I was the membership director for the American Motors Car Club of Chicago.  I advertised in a column in the Chicago Sun-Times devoted to car shows, events and clubs in the Chicago area.   One day I got a call from this gentleman who drag raced a '72 Gremlin.  He joined the club and the rest is history.  Although I had not seen Ron in years, I talked to him
a few months ago.   We remained good friends all these years.  R.I.P my friend.   By the way, his wife Karen was a sweetheart.

I don't recall ever meeting Ron. I saw his name on many of the early NAMDRA newsletters. I joined right after Jock took over as president. With out Ron there would not have been NAMDRA and the AMC NATIONALS..So sorry to hear that he passed. Must be some great AMC stories being told upstairs these days.

RIP Ron.

P.J., the family and I were shocked to here of the passing of Ron. We had lost track of Ron for a number of years now. I first met Ron at the '79 AMC Bracket Nationals at Great Fakes Dragaway in Union Grove, WI. We moved from  California to the midwest just to attend the AMC Bracket Nationals. One thing I will say about Ron is that he could talk you into things. Why do I say that. Well, first he talked me into being the Membership Coordinator for AM Drag Car in 1981, then talked me into starting a Chicagoland chapter of the club, the Chicago Tough Americans. Then in 1983 he talked me into becoming the president and editor of the club. Like I said, he could talk you into doing things! When Ron stepped down he ahd 13+ years of involvement in AMC car clubs. He was the vice President & Special Events Coordinator of the American Motors Car Club - Chicago; the First Vice President of AMO, he founded AM Drag car, a division of AMCC & transitioned & legally incorporated the national AM Drag Car & was president of the club for 9+ years. Thanks, Ron for all you had done for the AMC hobby!!
Have fun with your AMC!!!
