is there any tricks to this or brand to buy. Never done this in an AMC been reading and I see some have shimmed for better pressure so I thought I throw this out and see what the experts are doing. Building a 450-500hp motor. Let me know anything I need to do to this. Thanks in advance

There is only one. It is a  Melling K-85, re-boxed by everybody.  Pick the least expensive one and go with it.  I try to get near zero end clearance with the gasket in place.

Bulltear does a set with a slight mod to reduce "hammering".  I run those in both of my current engines and a couple that I've sold.
