adjusted neutral safety as per tsm , hole center(on switch) line up on column with a pin, will only start in neutral not park, i took the switch apart, everything seem fine in it, no corrosion in it, contacts were  good, check continuity on it, only would work in one position , doesn't seem to have 2 positions for contact ,is that possible or should it start in park also. the engine and transmission has been out of the car before, maybe a linkage adjustment problem also? wanted to make sure i did not over looked anything before i purchase a new switch.
thanks

What model and year ? It's possible that not all years started when in Park. American cars from the 50s and some from the 60s only started when in Neutral.
Long time AMC fan. Ambassador 343, AMX 390, Hornet 360, Spirit 304 and Javelin 390. All but javelin bought new.

Don't know how far you've gotten with this, but I believe some were only designed to start in neutral. I don't know if the TSM address that. I think the owners manual does.
Also, I usually just hold the key in the start position as I move the switch back and forth to see if it works in the vicinity at all. Compare it to where the reverse lights come on, if so equipped..
