On the T10, the collar is part of the grease retainer that is bolted to the front of the trans. The splined shaft of the trans passes through it. The fork is part of a floating assembly held in place by a spring and pivots on a ball and adjustable shaft to control the deflection angle and has knobs on either side that ride in the grooves of the throw-out bearing (see third post of page from PHAT69AMX for picture) The third post from page 2 (70RebelGeezer) of this thread has a picture to give an idea of the collar/retainer.
