Hi everyone,
I have a 68 Javelin SST, that from everything I have read, should have a left rear and a right front shock mounting position. In other words, it has a secondary bracket on the left rear side so the shock actually mounts behind the rear axle. The problem I have is that the left rear shock is rubbing against the rear axle, which is shown in the picture. Does anyone have an idea about why this would be happening, or is there a different sized shock that I should be using instead? I have attached a few pictures as well. Thanks |

Thanks very much and have a nice day.

I cant say for sure, the lower shock bracket is on upside down. Maybe on the wrong side also.

Thank you for your replies. After looking at my car, I can see that they are on upside down and backwards.
Thanks again for your help. |

And the stud is pointing the wrong direction. On my 68 Javelin SST both shock studs point to the rear of the car.

Unsure how much of this is correct. Early cars had both rear shocks on same side of axle. Later cars had Staggered Shocks for better "control". Early cars can be converted to Staggered Shocks. Use 2 of the same side leaf spring bottom shock stud brackets. We'll guess and say 2 right side brackets. Mount the 2nd one on the opposite side to get staggered. Unsure what's required up top, top brackets bolt in. May also require a different top bracket, or maybe relocation of one existing top bracket. Maybe that is what someone was trying to do... and was also trying to increase ground clearance ?

I was unaware some ‘68 Javelins didn’t have staggered shocks. Good to know.
