Early AMX / Javelin Hydraulic Clutch Setup

   anodizing won't dissolve, but the dyes apparently can. that's bothersome. and the poor finish quality, and the lack of a guide bushing or other mechanism is really dismaying. i had willwood on my "list" for the next generation of chassis work for me.

i too made a pull clutch system, mechanical, but i re-used the old Nashcan Z-bar system (very similar to the AMX system, likely not a coincidence). pull makes so much more sense than push. i kept the round nose push rod but wish i had welded a stud to the clutch for to accept a rod end. all of my clutch linkage is 1/4" rod.

	Chris I would write a letter to Willwood instead of trying to talk to one of the technical engineers. Unfortunately, in "Corporate America" the front line people have no power to escalate issues to anyone that could make a difference and it isn't until sales figures begin to slip that the bean counter guys open their eyes and start to listen to the technical guys. It is all about calculated risk. That conversation probably went like this. Shareholders: We want more money! CFO: We are not making enough return on our investment for our shareholders. CEO: How can we make more money? CMO: We obviously need to spend more money on marketing to drive sales. COO: Well we can explore ways to cut our manufacturing costs. CEO: Let's reduce manufacturing costs and spend more on marketing COO: Well we may take a hit to product quality. CEO: How much would that hit cost? COO: Well not much if we shorten the warranty. CEO: Great, shorten the warranty. CEO: CMO, double your efforts to tout our previous reliability record. COO: Tech guy, what if we skip this step in manufacturing? Tech Guy: If we make this change our reliability will drop and failure rates will skyrocket. This is a bad choice and I recommend against it. COO: How bad will the failure rate be within the normal warranty period? Tech Guy: I thought we were about making quality products? COO: Just answer the question. Tech Guy: Our failure rate would be X% within warranty COO: CEO, We would have a fail rate of x% CEO: CFO, do the math! CFO: Yes sir, by my numbers profitability would increase by 3% CEO: COO, make it happen! COO: Tech Guy issue the change to manufacturing Tech Guy: But I thougt..... COO: Silence! The great OZ has spoken! Customer: Darn these parts just aren't what they used to be. Wonder what's going on? I will talk to tech guy. End scene.......
