Ford Mondeo here, international version of the Contour I suspect.
Champion radiator with fans controlled by the Holley Sniper EFI, unfortunately I only ended up with single speed rather than dual speed fans, otherwise the Sniper could run high and low speed options. I also added a relay so that the fans switch off when the engine is cranking.

I like the Contour fan... It seems to give good cover to the radiator for a small car like mine.
I'm a little sketchy on understanding the wiring/fuses but I'm definitely interested in learning more about the dual speed options and having manual control in the cabin. Those seem like good features to have. |

I use these on my builds. They move a ton of air, alternator upgrade are likely as must though.

2 more versions of the same wiring diagram, note that these have all power from battery, where I ran switching power from switched side of starter relay so only had power while key is in on position. Edited by 73hornut - Apr/14/2019 at 12:27pm |

I have a pusher in front with a relay and a thermostat switch in the lower rad hose. The only time that it comes on is on a hot day when idling in a line up to a car show or when swapping cars at the garage.

Vinny is right on. I had read in one of the posts that they have their sensor in the upper radiator hose. That is not the correct location. You need your sensor in the lower hose, water into the engine after it has been cooled by the radiator. The water in the upper hose(inlet to the radiator) will be the temperature of the block when your thermostat opens. Useless for the sensor. I use a Spal 180 degree sensor in the lower hose. There are fittings out there that you install by cutting the radiator hose and the sensor screws into the fitting. Make sure the fitting is grounded. For my 232 I use one 12" pusher fan. No AC or accessories and it rarely comes on. On my new build The 69, a 258, with AC, PS and transmission cooling I am going overkill. I have 2, 12" pullers {pullers are more effective than pushers}. One fan, the one closest to the upper inlet hose, will start when the AC compressor is engaged. The second fan will start with the sensor in the lower hose. The fans are located in a shroud covering the entire radiator. Having AMC Fun, Ollie

Be-Kool, Spal, Derale, Flex-A-Lite... all big aftermarket names with fans that do the job. It's the cheaper ones that might not pull enough. Admittedly, the two low cost fans I have work just fine without AC though. The Contour/Mondeo (yes, the same car) fans are two speed... but not. The fans themselves are single speed. There is a big resistor in the bottom left corner of the shroud that cuts power down for the low speed. I prefer to just run them on high, since you don't really cut a lot of power using a resistor... the resistor uses up some power itself. Either use two controllers or a two stage switch so one fan cuts on before the other to reduce the surge current from the electric system. Just a one second delay is all that's needed. The Taurus single large fan is a three wire two speed fan with separate windings for each speed.
